We do ask that you sort out your files so that we are not shredding unnecessary documents nor extraneous material. Please pass on information to family, friends and neighbors.
Food will be donated to Neighbor-to-Neighbor. Paper is shredded on-site and properly recycled.

This Saturday, please come and experience the first Elementary Science
Extravaganza at Sacred Heart University. If you aren't an elementary
science educator, please pass this email and flyer onto your elementary
colleagues in your district. This is an opportunity to network, learning
something new and just have a great time for a couple of hours!
This is just the first event planned for a great year of science from your
science colleagues in the Connecticut Science Teachers Association and the
Connecticut Science Supervisors Association. Please be sure to mark your
calendars for the the Annual Connecticut Science Educators Day on Saturday,
November 22.

As the leaves begin falling from the trees, focus your camera on a favorite tree of yours, click, and send the photo to the Greenwich Tree Conservancy's fifth Awesome Tree Contest. You don't have to be a professional photographer, just someone who is wowed by the particular shape of a particular tree and you can be a winner. The categories for nominations of awesome trees are as follows:SCULPTURAL TREE judged on photographic image
A tree with an impressive sculptural form depicted in your own photograph
PHOTOGENIC LEAF OR LEAVES judged on photographic image
A photogenic leaf or cluster of leaves depicted in your own photograph or creative photographic treatment
FAVORITE TREE-INSPIRED TALE judged on story; please include photo
In 500 words or less, a tree that inspires—from a classic story or a personal experience
HEROIC TREE judged on story and photo
A tree that has beaten the odds, survived a storm, construction or other hardship

Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of Martha, the last Passenger Pigeon.
Dr. Daniel Ksepka, Bruce Museum Curator of Science, will talk about the passenger pigeon and other recently extinct bird species.
The program is for all ages and is held at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center at Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich. Additional activities include making an origami passenger pigeon and scanning the skies to learn about the wild birds at Greenwich Point.

Next Tuesday evening at the Bruce Museum, Dr. Daniel Ksepka, our new Curator of Science, will be discussing his ground-breaking research on the fossilized remains of an extinct giant bird with the largest wingspan of any bird ever to have lived. In case you missed it, this was very big news in the science world, covered by almost every major news source worldwide earlier this summer.
