Green LEAF Schools

Green LEAF focuses on “Leading, Educating, Achieving, and Fostering healthy, green
schools for all" through the CT DEEP (Connecticut Departments of Education, Energy and Environmental Protection), Construction Services, and Public Health, in partnership with more than
twenty environmental and educational non-governmental organizations in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Green LEAF Schools Program has the following goals:

Provide effective environmental and sustainability education
including: interdisciplinary learning featuring relationships between the environment, energy, and human systems; connections to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) content and practice; and civic engagement with the local community;

Improve the health and wellness of students and staff, including: an integrated school environmental health program; standards for nutrition and fitness; and quality outdoor time; and

Reduce environmental impact and cost, including:
maximizing building energy and water efficiency; encouraging waste reduction; and promoting alternative transportation use.

Welcome the newest Greenwich Green LEAF Schools!

In order to support all of our schools in the process to become Green LEAF Schools, Greenwich is encouraging a collaborative environment to share and explore our local green resources together, for a collective effort, with input from our local environmental organizations and partners.  To join the collaborative Green LEAF effort in Greenwich, please contact ptacgreenschools@gmail.com

How to be a Greenwich Green LEAF School

 Please use the CT Green LEAF Self-Assessment Tool  and links below to recruit a Green Team in your school, better understand the program, and organize/track green efforts and progress in your school.  GHS and Parkway are pilot Green LEAF Schools and will provide much of the information that is district-wide, so to prevent us all repeating a lot of the same tasks/research, we ask that you stay tuned for important Green LEAF information/updates.
