Request for eco-enthusiastic volunteers: Join the Calf Island Conservancy boat trip to Calf Island for the annual spring Spruce-Up Saturday May 17, 9 AM-1 PM. Boat transportation will be provided, as in the past, courtesy of Beacon Point Marine in Cos Cob.

Volunteers will assist in maintaining trails, picking up trash on the beaches, tending the young saplings in our native tree plantation and removing invasive plants while enjoying the natural setting. Children accompanied by an adult are encouraged to participate.

Coffee, juice and bagels will be served!
The boat will leave from the Greenwich Grass Island public dock – at the second (South) dock. To reach Grass Island, turn off Horseneck Lane onto Shore Road. First left leads to the dock. The boat leaves at 9 AM and returns at 1PM. Bring water and work gloves, and wear appropriate clothing for work and weather.  The boat will land participants directly on the beach. Please volunteer only if you feel confident about climbing over the bow of the boat onto the beach or into shallow water.

Paul Barbian, President of Calf Island Conservancy says, "Our annual Spring Spruce-Up day provides an opportunity for our members and others in the community to participate in the ongoing improvements we are making to the island and to raise our profile in Greenwich as a location for nature, wildlife and environmental education. Various youth and adult groups have conducted educational programs on the Island as well as helping with maintenance and improvements."

Calf Island Conservancy, Inc. is a non-profit group working as a Partner Organization with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to promote conservation and stewardship of Calf Island (approximately 30 acres) located less than a mile off the coast of Greenwich. To become a member of the Calf Island Conservancy, please send a check for $25 to cover annual dues to Calf Island Conservancy, PO Box 5031, Greenwich, CT 06831 or download the membership form from our website.
