Dear Long Island Sound Study Partners and Supporters:
We have an exciting opportunity to host the annual USFWS National Schoolyard Habitat Training Course for the first time in CT.
Multiple partners have worked to implement Schoolyard Habitats in Stamford, Greenwich and New Haven, CT over the past few years. New Haven, CT was named one of the first Urban Wildlife Refuge sites in the country- host to 4 schoolyard habitats in 2014 and more to come.
Schoolyard habitats are a great way to engage youth and connect them to the outdoors, especially in urban environments. Through the program students restore habitat at their school, build outdoor classrooms and improve riparian areas. These activities help improve habitat in the Long Island Sound Area, buffer the Sound from urban runoff and strengthen the students' connection to their local environment. Learn more here http://www.fws.gov/northeast/cpwn/schoolyardhabitat.html
This training course provides an opportunity to learn how to implement Schoolyard Habitat Projects where you work in the Northeast and Long Island Sound watershed.
The course will be hosted by Audubon Connecticut, one of our lead project partners, and held at their site in Greenwich, Sept 8-11. It will draws participants, speakers and trainers from across the country. See attached for National Conservation Training Center Course Announcement.
Registration is limited. Please sign up as soon as possible.
